Looking for Justin Leonard WITB 2024? Erin, the Founder of Senior Golf Source got a behind the scenes look at what the 1997 British Open Champion is carrying this year.

Justin Leonard and Harrison Frazar are both University of Texas graduates like myself. As a fellow Longhorn, I was thrilled to catch up with Leonard and his caddie at the 2024 Chubb Classic.

Now a Floridian, Justin and his family relocated to Palm Beach County, close to where his wife Amanda grew up. My first thought….How great is it, that his son Luke and Charlie Woods could go to the same school?

The father of four was thrilled to turn 50 last year, and be eligible to join the PGA Tour Champions.

By the end of this post, you will know if the Texan’s equipment fits your swing and the alternative options to consider.

Justin Leonard Driver

Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond Driver

Driver 10.5°

Overview

Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond Driver

In his second season on the colloquial “Seniors Tour,” the University of Texas graduate opts for the newly released Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond. The lowest spinning driver in the Paradym delivers a shallow launch.

Diamond is an exceptional distance option for higher swing speeds.

On the other hand, the average senior golfer is better fitted to the Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Max or the Paradym Ai Smoke Max Fast.

⛳️ Fun Fact: Justin Leonard and Harrison Frazar lived together in college and played the Royal Oaks Country Club. This prestigious Dallas club is also where Scottie Scheffler plays golf.

PROS

  • Generates low spin
  • Boosts ball speed
  • Adjustable hosel
  • Delivers optimal distance

CONS

  • Not suited to slower swing speeds
  • Premium cost

Justin Leonard Fairway Wood

Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond Fairway Wood

Woods 15° and 18°

Overview

The two-time Ryder Cup winner sticks to last season’s Callaway fairway woods, opting for Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond. Like his driver, Justin swings the lowest spinning edition of the range, which springs the golf ball off the face prompting rapid ball speed.

His fairway woods of choice are the 15-degree 3-wood and 18-degree construction and is without an adjustable hosel. The Paradym Triple Diamond is built for those with faster swing speeds, so I recommend the Paradym Ai Smoke Max, which offers more forgiveness and consistency for the average golfer.

PROS

  • Explosive speed
  • Low launch for greater control
  • Increased roll after landing
  • Compact footprint

CONS

  • Expensive
  • For a low-spin fairway wood, it could restrict the spin more.

Justin Leonard Hybrid

Callaway Apex Pro Hybrid

Hybrid 20° and 23°

Overview

The 2019 Team USA Junior Captain continues to stack his bag with Callaway as we transition into hybrids. The Apex Pro utility clubs feature less offset than standard game improvement hybrids. However, they control spin and can promote an elevated launch from about any lie.

Justin carries a 20 and 23-degree hybrid or a 3 and 4 hybrid. While mid and low-handicappers can excel with this hybrid, I feel the average player is better off with the standard Apex.

PROS

  • Increased workability
  • Rapid ball velocity
  • Enhanced stability
  • Impressive distance

CONS

  • No adjustable hosel

Justin Leonard Irons

Callaway Apex TCB Irons (5-10)

Irons 5 – 10

Overview

Leonard’s loyalty to Callaway continues into the irons as he plays the player’s performance Apex Forged irons. They offer the buttery-soft feel and compact profile of a player’s iron and the minor forgiveness and length of a player’s distance construction.

Despite their exceptional feel and workability, the Apex Forged Irons offer insufficient forgiveness for mid and high-handicappers to strike.

In addition, they are an older model of irons replaced in 2021 by the Callaway Apex Pro and Callaway Apex Irons. These are better left to professionals and clean-ball-striking low handicappers.

PROS

  • Crisp acoustics
  • Generates impressive distance
  • Improved launch on all shots

CONS

  • Not ideal for mid to high handicappers
  • Usually found used

Justin Leonard Wedges

Callaway Jaws Raw Wedges

Wedges 54° and 60°

Overview

The twelve-time PGA Tour winner turns to the Callaway Jaws Raw wedges for his greenside needs. He swings the 54-degree sand wedge and 60-degree lob wedge with a 10 degree [Grind] S grind. These wedges are a long-time favorite guiding him to a top-ten position in scrambling on the PGA Tour Champions last season. He currently sits at 18th for 2024, which is still not too shabby!

Additionally, S-grind sole proves versatile and allows you to play a variety of short game shots. All in all, its forgiveness, spin, and consistency suit golfers of every skill level.

What I like most about the Texan’s wedges are the inscriptions on them “Go Ponies” and “Go Hoos.”

PROS

  • Optimal spin
  • Enhances friction on all shots
  • Forgiving
  • Clean turf interaction

CONS

  • Some players may find the swing weight on the light side

Justin Leonard Putter

Callaway Odyssey Ai-One Double Wide Putter

Putter

Overview

The Texas Longhorn graduate displayed putting consistency in 2023 as one of the top twenty players for one putt drained. He was previously using the Callaway Odyssey Tri-Hot SK with the white hot insert for optimal topspin and a soft feel across the clubface. This simple blade style putter is marketed for having more consistent ball speeds.

Overall, this is another club that the average golfer can stroke. And compared to Phil Mickelson’s putter this one is far more affordable!

PROS

  • Soft feel
  • Added stability at impact
  • Consistent ball speed

CONS

  • Not ideal for golfers with a heavy arch stroke

Final Thoughts on Justin Leonard WITB

As he continues to impress in his second year on the PGA Tour Champions, the 1997 Open winner is due some silverware. After reviewing the Justin Leonard WITB 2024, we see he backs Callaway to help him thrive on the PGA Tour Champions.

While most of his clubs are better suited to a fast, clean-swinging golfer like himself, his shorter clubs can work for the average golfer. His Callaway Jaws wedges, for example, deliver excellent forgiveness, consistent spin, and controlled flight, which every golfer can enjoy.
