TaylorMade Spider Tour Putter
The TaylorMade Spider Tour Putter received its fame Jason Day and Dustin Johnson.
The Spider Tour includes some stealth-like characteristics. Golfers could not wait for this putter when it first rolled off the production line.
The Spider is smaller but offered a more prominent statement than TaylorMade’s previous ghost line and offered a bigger punch.
TaylorMade is known for pushing the envelope with an extensive amount of research. Here are some of the specs on the TaylorMade Spider Tour.
The Spider Tour has a trademarked Pure Roll insert face. The face has grooves with a softer material to increase topspin and improve vertical roll on any putter surface to help the ball stay on the desired line.
Additionally, there is a high MOI (moment of inertia). MOI is an acronym that measures the clubhead’s resistance to moving around unevenly. In the case of the Spider Tour, there is a high MOI which in turn means less resistance to movement in a putter stroke with more forgiveness.
The Spider Tour also offers a smooth matte finish in black, red, and platinum with red accents. It has a double bend shaft to help balance a putting stroke from any golfer.

The last TaylorMade putter to review is the Spider GT, the latest of the Spider line.
It’s one of our favorites, and the TaylorMade Spider Ladies GT Putter made the list of best ladies’ golf clubs in 2023.
TaylorMade is known for innovation but not necessarily for its looks. At first glance, this putter is ugly, but at a second glance, it is sleeker than the previous Spider models. It additionally has more customization options than the earlier versions.
There is an array of color options, hosel bends, shaft lengths, sight lines, grip options, and more. As the game of golf continues to adapt and expand, customization continues to be a desire among players. This gives the Spider GT an edge over the Spider Tour and Spider X. Golfers can even get their names or slogans inscribed on their putter.
Some of the features and specs include a weighting where the perimeter of the club is a focus. This feature is created for optimal roll and ample forgiveness.
In addition, there are two wings on the putter, both of which weigh 90 grams which is roughly 82% of the entire weight of the putter head.
TaylorMade clearly has golf club designers who are mad scientists. Like the Spider X, the Pure Roll face has found its way back on the face of the latest model. The face on the TaylorMade Spider GT is made of a TPU urethane material with aluminum inserts.
TaylorMade Spider Putter Review: A Personal Comparison
I took some time to compare the three putters. I focused on three common characteristics – look, feel, and sound.
One thing to note is that the look is subject to the tester since every golfer has different preferences and styles. The first thing I noticed when standing over the ball from each putter is that the Spider Tour was much larger than the Spider X and Spider GT.
The Spider X takes the win for putter confidence when it comes to look. If you have not played in a while and step over the ball for your first put with the Spider GT, you may be unsure of where the ball is going.
While the Spider GT is not a blade, it is simpler and smaller than most mallets in today’s golf market.
When it comes to feel, the straightforward winner was the Spider GT. To my surprise, I loved the response off the face of the putter. The new Pure Roll face felt better than the previous Spider X. I believe the 45-degree aluminum inserts were a huge enhancement in this model.
Lastly, as far as feel goes, the TaylorMade Spider GT sounded the best. I played the Spider X putter for an entire season but was never thrilled with the sound of the ball off the face.
For a premium putter, the Spider X did not sound premium at all. The Spider GT sounds just perfect. Even though I don’t fully love the look of the Spider GT, it became contagious the more I hit it.
