Stuart Appleby Driver
Driver – 9•
Overview
Appleby has hit over 67% of his fairways this season and boasts a longest drive of 310 yards. The Aussie turns to the low-spinning, explosive Callaway Paradym Triple Diamond driver to maximize his yardage off the tee box.
Callaway engineers designed a 450 cc head, smaller than game improvement drivers, lowering spin and enhancing workable flight. In addition, the Jailbreak system and A.I. designed clubface deliver sensational stability and rapid velocity.
However, the reduced head size, neutral flight, and low spin design best suit faster swing speeds. I recommend slower swinging golfers turn to the lenient, high-launching Callaway Paradym X Driver.
PROS
- Low spin
- Enhanced workability
- Generates rapid ball speed
- Adjustable hosel
- Elevated MOI for stability at contact
CONS
- Reduced forgiveness does not suit high handicappers
- Premium price tag

Stuart Appleby Fairway Woods
Callaway Rogue ST LS Fairway Wood
Updated on 2024-10-12
Fairway Wood –
15• & 18•
Overview
The 1997 Honda Classic winner continues with Callaway in the fairway woods, opting for the 2022 Rogue ST LS 3 and 5-wood. I find its low and forward CG position does wonders for reducing spin and promoting a lower controlled launch.
The Callaway Rogue ST LS fairway woods feature Batwing and Jailbreak technology, which maximize stability without impacting face flex.
This combination preserves ball speed and contains spin on mishits while ensuring clubface flexibility on strikes low off the clubface.
PROS
- Controlled launch
- Low spin
- Flexible clubface
- Preserves ball speed and contains spin on mishits
- Encourages workable flight
CONS
- Not suited to slow swing speed
- Moderately expensive

Stuart Appleby Utility Iron
Callaway X Forged UT
Updated on 2024-10-12
Utility Iron – 22•
Overview
Appleby transitions to the irons with the popular X-Forged UT, prized for its rapid ball velocity, buttery-soft feel, and controlled flight. In addition, its wider sole proved efficient through the rough to help me produce a clean strike from any lie.
Although the X-Forged UT sports forgiving elements like tungsten weighting, it does not offer sufficient leniency for the average golfer.
As an alternative, I recommend testing the Callaway Apex Utility Wood. However, if you still require additional forgiveness, turn to the Paradym X Hybrid.
PROS
- Low, controlled launch
- Explosive clubface
- Generates a soft feel
- Encourages workable flight
- Clean turf interaction
CONS
- Insufficient forgiveness for the average golfer
- Expensive for a utility iron

Stuart Appleby Irons
Callaway Apex TCB Irons
est $1098 – $1283 (used)
Irons – (4 Iron – PW)
Overview
The gentleman who overcame the tragedy of losing his first wife in a vehicle collision turns to the Apex TCB for his approach game. These tour-inspired golf clubs have guided the Victoria, Australia, native to just under 68% of his greens in regulation this season.
The Apex TCB irons consist of Forged 1025 mild carbon steel to encourage minimal turf interaction and a delicate feel. Callaway golf engineers optimized the CG position in each iron, prompting desirable launch and workable flight for skilled golfers.
Since the TCB irons provide limited forgiveness and are better suited to low handicappers and pros, I recommend an alternative option for mid and high-handicap golfers. The Callaway Apex DCB Irons carry a wider sole, moderate offset, and a larger head shape allowing more room for error.
PROS
- Prompts workable flight
- Clean turf interaction
- Smooth feel on every strike
- Amplified audio
- Compact clubhead shape
CONS
- Expensive golf clubs
- Limited forgiveness for mid and high handicappers

Stuart Appleby Wedge
Golf Wedge – 52•
Overview
The five-time International President’s Cup team member continues with Callaway as he enters his wedge play. He has saved par on 93 of the 145 occasions he missed the GIR, making him one of the better scramblers on Tour.
Stuart relies on the Callaway Jaws Raw wedge, which offers exceptional greenside spin and control. I find the combination of Razor Sharp Grooves and Offset Groove-in-Groove technology maximizes friction and spin revolutions for hop and stop landings.
One point to note is that I did not see any other wedge in his bag besides a 52 degree gap. At first, I thought his caddie may be cleaning the other wedges when I saw his set, but whenever I checked, I only saw the lone gap design. If any readers have seen Appleby play a sand or lob wedge, let me know.
While I admire the spin, feel, and control of the JAWS Raw wedge, it does not provide the leniency demanded by higher handicappers. Therefore, I suggest sticking with the forgiving cavity-back design of the Mack Daddy CB Wedge.

Stuart Appleby Putter
Putter
Overview
Appleby closes out the bag with an older model Odyssey Pro putter, which has helped him into the top 5 one putters on Tour this season. In addition, he finds himself inside the top 20 for putting average and putts per round.
The Odyssey Pro is a semi-mallet head putter with the brand’s famed White Hot Insert to soften the feel and impart optimal topspin onto the ball. Plus, I find it mutes the acoustics of each putt and causes it to roll smoothly off the face with limited skid.
Although I feel the average golfer can thrive with the Odyssey Pro, it is older, and you will have better luck finding a newer edition. The Odyssey White Hot OG Rossie Slant Neck carries a mid-mallet construction, offering a similar level of consistency and forgiveness.
PROS
- Elevated MOI for stability at impact
- Softens the feel of each stroke
- Enhances friction
- Generates consistent, smooth roll
- Effective three-line alignment aid
CONS
- Difficult to find new
- The double bend hosel is not ideal for seriously arched strokes

Final Thoughts on Stuart Appleby WITB
Our Stuart Appleby WITB 2023 revealed a strong Callaway presence in his bag from driver to putter. Unlike many of his peers, the newcomer to the tour keeps his bag uniform with a single brand.
Most golf clubs in the Australian’s bag are best suited to low handicappers and tour professionals, given their lack of forgiveness, low spin, and low launch.
Although some amateurs will thrive with the high-spinning Jaws Raw Wedges, I feel Appleby’s set is better left in the hands of a golf pro.
