Felicia Sellers Odum lives in Claxton, Georgia—a rural farming community about an hour west of Savannah—where golf, family, and hard work are all closely tied together.
She’s been married to her wonderful husband Brian for 40 years. Together they’ve raised three daughters and now enjoy time with their four grandchildren. Life has always been full, and golf has been part of it—on and off—for more than four decades.

Felicia Sellers Odum’s Golf Story
Felicia first picked up the game in high school under unusual circumstances. A friend wanted to join the golf team but needed another girl to make it happen. Felicia stepped in, and the two became the first female players in their school and district. There was one catch—they couldn’t compete at the state level because there were no other girls to play against. So they played with the boys instead. “Not that we were any good,” she says—but they played anyway.
Her life took her in many directions. Felicia built a career in education, teaching middle and high school fine arts before earning advanced degrees in technology education and clinical mental health counseling. She later worked in addiction recovery, supporting women in recovery homes and counseling court-mandated clients. Alongside that, she and Brian built a life in agriculture as farmers and contract poultry growers, running a business that supports farmland—including their own golf course.
That course, Evans Heights , became a turning point.
A few years ago, it was close to disappearing. The condition was poor, members were leaving, and it looked destined to be turned into housing. After one of Brian’s many frustrations about the state of the course, Felicia gave a simple response: “Well, let’s just buy it.” He stared at her—but they did it.
Five years later, the course is back. What was once fading is now a thriving nine-hole layout, with three additional holes nearly complete as part of restoring the original back nine. Brian handles the outside operations, Felicia manages the inside, and together with their staff, they’ve rebuilt something that matters to their community.
Felicia plays about four times a week, mostly with a ladies’ social group, but she’s just as comfortable joining the afternoon men’s blitz or heading out with Brian. Around their course, handicaps aren’t a big focus—enjoying the game is.
Golf, Life and Perspective
Her approach is straightforward. Aim for the next shot, not the flag.
And when it’s time to swing, she’ll remind herself: “Stop thinking; hit the ball.” She also believes every golfer has their own swing—it’s just a matter of finding it and sticking with it.
One of the most defining moments in her life came at age 44, when two specialists told her she wouldn’t live to see 50. She stepped away from her teaching career and made significant changes to her health and lifestyle. With dietary changes, healthy supplementation, and a complete shift in how she lived day to day, she proved them wrong.
Today, she says she is the healthiest she’s ever been and sees those changes not as optional, but necessary for living.
These days, life is centered around family, the golf course, and the daily work that keeps both going. What started as a conversation has turned into something lasting—for Felicia, for Brian, and for the community around Evans Heights.
