As a golf professional, one of the questions that people continually ask me is how to get more distance from their driver.

This is usually about accuracy for fast swing speed golfers, but for the slow swing speed players, distance can be tied into the equipment you are playing.

The best drivers for slow swing speeds will be lightweight, accurate, high flying, and have great sound and feel. This is a lot to pack into one clubhead, but it is most definitely possible with the current equipment choices we have on the market.

I recently tested all the new drivers on the market, and this is the most up-to-date list of the best golf drivers for slow swing speeds. Most important I included, how to choose which one is right for you.

Check out our time saving summary table of best golf drivers for slow swing speeds:

Overall Best Driver For Slow Swing Speed

Cleveland Launcher XL Lite Driver

$249.98

Updated on 2024-03-28

Best Overall

Cleveland Launcher XL Lite Driver

The Cleveland Launch XL Lite Driver is my favorite option for a slow swing speed golfer. The golfers I’ve worked with that have slower swing speeds often struggle with forgiveness in addition to distance, and the Cleveland Launch XL Lite can check all the boxes.

Not to mention, it’s reasonably priced.

When Cleveland created the Launcher XL Lite Driver, they introduced the new Action Mass CB Technology. The Action Mass CB is an 8g weight that goes inside the end of the grip.

You may think that this makes the club heavier, but instead, it balances the golf club out and adds more control and a jump in distance without increasing the swing weight of the club.

In addition, Cleveland included the Rebound Frame, which is flexible and increases the speed that comes off the face of the club.

Overall, if your swing speed is costing you distance, the Launcher XL Lite Driver from Cleveland can bring it back.

Driver Specifications

Driver LoftLengthLieVolume
10.5°46″60°460cc
12°46″60°460cc

The Clevland Men’s Launcher XL Lite Driver comes with a Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360 Golf Grip. It has the option of three stock shafts: senior flex, regular flex, or stiff flex. The swing weight is also a D1 and comes with a headcover.

PROS

  • More ball speed for game improvement
  • Slightly longer shaft for an increased total distance
  • Extra large head for improved accuracy
  • Bonded hosel helps to save some weight
  • Fair price point, and with the many positives its our best driver for slower swing speeds

CONS

  • The sound can be a little louder than some like (not as loud as the older model Clevelands)
  • Some players need to order the Accuracy Build to ensure better control

Best Driver for Ladies

Callaway Paradym Driver

For many years, I considered the Cobra or Tour Edge the best ladies drivers for slow swing speed.

However, this year the Callaway Paradym driver really impressed me. The industry’s first 360 Carbon Chasis offers golfers quite a bit of performance and maximizes total distance out on the golf course.

Callaway still included their Jailbreak technology for that extra jump in ball speed. In addition, the fact that artificial intelligence is used throughout this line, you will see things other golf club manufacturers just can’t do.

With 33% lighter weight and adjustable perimeter weighting, the Callaway Paradym Driver works for lady golfers with handicaps ranging from single digits to higher handicappers.

If you’re looking for lightweight golf clubs, you’ll also want to read my article on the Best Lightweight Golf Clubs For Seniors.

Driver Specifications

Driver LoftLengthLieVolume
10.5°43.75″59°460cc

The driver comes with a Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360 Golf Grip. It comes with a ladies shaft, Aldila Ascent PL Blue 40 Graphite Shaft. The swing weight is also a C8. It includes an adjustment tool and a headcover.

PROS

  • Adjustable weighting and loft
  • An excellent option for a wide handicap range of lady golfers
  • Lightweight driver compared to previous models
  • Artificial intelligence to improve overall feel and consistency

CONS

  • Brand new golf driver which has higher pricing

Most Forgiving Driver for Slow Swing Speeds

Cobra Air X Offset Driver

$199.00 Amazon Prime

Updated on 2024-03-27

Most Forgiving

Cobra Air X Offset Driver

Slower swing speed golfers sometimes struggle to close the clubface down as they swing through the ball. This can result in quite a few shots that end up right of the target. The Cobra Air X Offset Driver is the best option for forgiveness for the slow swing speeds.

When I tried the Cobra Air X I was incredibly impressed by how lightweight it is and how easy it is to swing. With the Cobra Air X driver featuring a carbon crown, a 48g shaft, and a lightweight grip, it’s a very easy club to swing fast.

The Cobra Air X does come in an offset version, so you should have no trouble getting the drives straightened out if you struggle with a slice.

Driver Specifications

Driver LoftLengthLieVolume
9.5°46″60°460cc
10.5°46″60°460cc
11.5°46″60°460cc

This Men’s Golf Driver comes with a Lamkin REL Microlite Golf Grip. It has the option of three stock graphite shafts: senior flex, regular flex, or stiff flex. The swing weight is also a D1.5 and comes with a headcover.

PROS

  • Back heel weighting makes the clubhead feel more stable
  • Slightly draw bias design
  • The carbon crown makes the club more lightweight
  • Easy to hit

  • Some players find that high ball is not as prevalent with the Cobra Air X Driver

Best Distance Driver For Slow Swing Speed

TaylorMade Stealth 2 Driver

$389.95

Updated on 2024-03-28

Best for Distance

TaylorMade Stealth 2 Driver

The TaylorMade Stealth 2 Driver is the best option for golfers with slow swing speeds that are not getting enough distance from the tee. With the TaylorMade Stealth 2, many senior golfers are noticing that they won’t have to make changes, but the results of their golf shots are considerably better.

With the TaylorMade Stealth 2, you get all the latest in the 60x Carbon Twist Face.

In fact, TaylorMade claims they made the Stealth 2 even faster than the original Stealth.

At first, I found this hard to believe, but after using the driver, I was impressed with what it offers.

The new face in the TaylorMade Stealth 2 is 24 grams lighter than the original. This weight savings allowed for a larger sweet spot and better performance across the entire face. With a Carbon Reinforced Composite Ring attaching the driver’s head, there is also increased forgiveness because of the strategic weight placement.

The bottom line, if you want some of the most impressive driver technology on the market, the TaylorMade Stealth 2 is a great place to look.

Driver Specifications

Driver LoftLengthLieVolume
45.75″56°-60°460cc
10.5°45.75″56°-60°460cc
12°45.75″56°-60°460cc

This Men’s Golf Driver comes with a Golf Pride Z-Grip Plus2 Golf Grip. It has four stock graphite shaft flex options: regular, stiff, x-stiff, and senior flex. The TaylorMade Stealth 2 Driver comes with an adjustment tool and headcover.

PROS

  • 15g rear weight for improved MOI and forgiveness
  • Very stable clubhead at impact
  • Increased club head speed for launch and carry distance from previous Stealth driver
  • Speed Pocket design

CONS

  • The club head is large, and it takes a bit of getting used to at first
  • Carbon face has a slightly different feel than Titanium

Best Feeling Slow Swing Driver

Best Feeling

Ping G430 HL Max Driver

As important as it is to have forgiveness and distance in a driver’s head, I also really care about feel. Whether you are a high handicapper or a low handicapper, you can feel the way the ball comes off the face of a driver and realize that it’s going to be different from one club selection to the next.

The Ping G430 HL Max is a lightweight golf driver with a new integral rib structure. The rib structure improves overall feel and sound, two driver characteristics that go hand in hand.

You will hear different keywords or terminology from golf manufacturers, and one that Ping came up with for the Ping G430 HL is Spinsistency. The idea here is that there is more spin consistency across the entire face. The Ping G430 HL Max Driver is not a low spin driver; it would fall into the mid spin range.

Driver Specifications

Driver LoftLengthLieVolume
45.75″58.5°460cc
10.5°45.75″58.5°460cc
12°45.75″58.5°460cc

This Golf Driver comes with a Lamkin UTx Golf Grip and Alta Quick Graphite shafts. An adjustment tool and headcover are included.

“Replaced my G425 Max with the new G430 Max. I’m hitting the G430 10 to 15 yards longer! No Joke! The feel is better and the sound is superior. Though it is pricey, I feel like it paid for itself after my first round with it. Could not be happier.”

Ping 430 Max Driver Review

PROS

  • Longer carry distances with the HL design
  • Very lightweight shaft and grip selection in this model
  • Variable thickness face for better ball speeds
  • Improved sound and feel

CONS

  • The HL model is not great for golfers that already hit higher launching drives

Best Adjustable Slow Swing Speed Driver

Cobra Aerojet Driver

$399.98 Amazon Prime

Updated on 2024-03-28

Best Adjustable Driver

Cobra Aerojet Driver

For golfers with slow swing speeds, especially senior golfers, the Cobra drivers are almost always a great solution. The latest in the Cobra line, the Cobra Aerojet Driver, has new aerodynamic shaping and the Pwrshell Face.

Cobra focuses on different types of technology in their drivers. They like to put together a club with a mix of forgiveness and distance. However, where they have gained traction in the last few years is with distance and ball speed.

The Aerojet driver features a carbon crown and sole, adjustable loft, and a new face insert to increase ball speed and launch. Essentially, you can take the same swing and notice better results.

When I tested the Cobra Aerojet Driver, I was incredibly impressed by the total distances I could get and the way adjustability makes this club a good solution for such a wide range of golfers.

Driver Specifications

Driver LoftLengthLieVolume
45.5″57°460cc
10.5°45.5″57°460cc
12°45.5″57°460cc

This Men’s Golf Driver comes with a Lamkin Crossline Golf Grip. It has the option of four flexes: senior flex, regular flex, x-stiff or stiff flex. The Cobra Aerojet Driver comes with a headcover and an adjustment tool.

PROS

  • Adjustability
  • New H.O.T. face design with artificial intelligence
  • Carbon crown and sole
  • Low center of gravity and faster ball speed

  • The aerodynamics have changed a lot on this club; it looks much different than Cobra drivers of the past; some may see that as a negative

Best Slow Swing Speed Driver for a Budget

Callaway Mavrik Max Driver

Price not available

Updated on 2024-03-27

Best Budget Driver

Callaway Mavrik Max Driver

The Callaway Mavrik Max Driver originally came out in 2020. At the time, it would not have qualified as a golf driver on a budget. However, with the popularity and success of the club, Callaway made quite a few of these Mavriks, and now they are discounted in price.

If you have a slower swing speed and want to benefit from Jailbreak Technology, adjustability in the club head, and a lightweight carbon crown, the Callaway Mavrik Max is the way to go.

I have had the Callaway Mavrik in my bag for a few years, and I still get tremendous amounts of ball speed with this club.

One of my favorite things about the Callaway Mavrik Max driver is the sound and feel. When you strike one in the center, you are most certainly rewarded for it.

PROS

  • Very forgiving driver with a large sweet spot
  • AI technology for better distance
  • Deeply discounted from the original release

CONS

  • The clubface sits a bit open at the address

Best for Beginners

best golf driver for beginners, PXG 0211 Driver

The PXG 0211 Driver is one of my favorite options for a golfer with slow swing speed that is just getting started out.

When you first start in the game, the last thing you want to do is invest a large amount of money into a golf driver, only to find out it’s not a good fit for your game.

With this PXG driver, you will get a Ti811 titanium alloy body and a Ti412 titanium alloy face. The combination of the two helps to improve overall accuracy, distance, and forgiveness.

Driver Specifications

Driver LoftLengthLieVolume
45.5″57°460cc
10.5°45.5″57°460cc

There are also several PXG driver shaft options that golfers can choose from with the PXG 0211 driver.

For players over 50, the Senior Flex Cypher 40 5.0 is a great option to consider. It’s very lightweight shaft and produces a higher launch.

Best New Driver 2023

Callaway Paradym Driver

$419.99

Updated on 2024-03-28

Best New Driver

Callaway Paradym Driver best new golf drivers

We know the Callaway Paradym Driver already made our list of the best driver for slower swing speeds as the top choice for women. However, it deserves a second spot on the list as the best new driver for slower swing speeds.

Male golfers will appreciate the 360 Carbon Chasis with an impressive feel and a lighter-weight design.

Although Callaway did not go with the carbon face like the TaylorMade Stealth, by wrapping the head in carbon many of the same performance benefits can be gained for golfers.

I like the look of the new Callaway Paradym Driver. However, the stability and control were what really set this driver apart for me.

The advanced face, combined with the consistency of the hit, makes it easier for golfers with slower swing speeds to maximize distance.

Driver Specifications

Driver LoftLengthLieVolume

PROS

  • Jailbreak system with extra jump off the face
  • Adjustable perimeter weighting
  • AI designed face
  • Carbon chassis for lightweight feel

CONS

  • The high price can be a turn off for some slow swing speed golfers

Best For Low Handicap Slow Swing Speed Golfers

Callaway Rogue ST Max LS Driver

$371.23 Amazon Prime

Updated on 2024-03-28

Low Handicappers

Callaway Rogue ST Max LS Driver

Believe it or not, there are plenty of low handicap golfers that do not have high swing speeds.

The Callaway Rogue ST Max LS Driver is a golf club built for golfers who want a strong flight, lower spin, and more workability in their drives.

Finding that combination of workability and distance can be a difficult task for slower swing speed golfers. However, the Callaway Rogue ST Max LS offers so much adjustability and workability that it truly is possible.

The Tungsten Speed Cartridge is the impressive distance technology here. With more than 23 grams low and deep in the driver head, when you make good contact, it feels like the ball travels forever.

If you find yourself somewhere between the Callaway Paradym Driver and the Callaway Mavrik, I like this choice.

Driver Specifications

Driver LoftLengthLieVolume
45.75″57°460cc
10.5°45.75″57°460cc

The Callaway Rogue ST Max LS Driver comes with a Golf Pride Tour Velvet 360 and includes a headcover and clubhead adjustment tool. It is available in left hand and right hand orientation.

PROS

  • Lower spin model
  • More workability than other choices on the market
  • Artificial intelligence to increase overall performance
  • Built for mid to low handicaps
  • Tungsten weight helps hit the golf ball low and deep

CONS

  • Ball speed is not as high as the Callaway Paradym Driver

Helpful Tips & Buying Guide | Drivers for Slow Swing Speed

best golf drivers for slow swing speeds showing a senior golfer hitting his PXG golf clubs

The best golf drivers on the market are built to work for a wide range of players. If you are a fast-swinging golfer, there are clubs for you. If you are an average swing speed golfer, there are clubs for you. Slow swing speed golfers need to understand that there is no need to settle with a driver.

You don’t have to feel as though you are pushing it each time you get a club in your hand.

Instead, find the right match and swing within yourself. Here are some ways to guarantee you end up with the right driver in your hands.

New Drivers vs Old Drivers: Are They Really Better?

Golf manufacturers come out with a new driver or two every year. However, just because it’s a new release does not necessarily mean it’s the best option for a slower swing speed player.

The way I have always looked at this is to first determine if you are a budget shopper or a tech shopper. If all you care about is the latest golf technology, splurge and go for the new model.

If you want to balance your golf budget between rounds of golf and golf equipment, the release from last year is the overall best choice.

Loft Options for Slow Swing Speeds

Slower swing speed golfers should consider a golf driver with a slightly higher loft. The faster you swing the club, the easier it is to hit a high-lofted golf shot. Slower swing speed players can get a few extra yards of carry by going with the 10.5 or even 11 degree driver.

I recommend buying something with adjustability in the 10 degree range; this will help to give you a range of lofts.

Low Spin vs High Spin

Slower swing speed drivers tend to produce very little spin on their drives. This can sometimes cause problems with the total launch of the shots. I like to recommend the mid spin golf drivers for the players with slower swing speeds.

Mid spin drivers allow for a mix of forgiveness and distance, all from the same club.

Swing Speed vs Shaft Flex

The slower your swing speed, the more flexible the shaft you need. A golfer with a swing speed less than 80 mph with the driver may want to consider the senior flex golf shaft. Most players with slower swing speeds will choose between a regular or a senior shaft.

If your swing speed is very low, you will also want to consider shaft weight. The lightweight shafts can feel more flexible and help to increase both launch and carry.

Low Center of Gravity (CG)

One of the most important technologies that golfers with a slow swing speed can look for in a driver is a low center of gravity.

Center of Gravity (CG) affects the launch and spin of a golf ball. High CG (near the top of the club head) will help the ball to launch low and cause more spin. Low CG (near the bottom of the club head) will cause the ball to launch high and spin less. With a low center of gravity, getting the ball up in the air is much easier.

We now know that when a golf ball stays in the air longer, it has increased total and carry distance.

What to Look For In Your Golf Driver | Reasons to Buy or Avoid

Here are a few things I consider to be red flags when buying a driver for slower swing speed:

  • High Kick Point: the higher kick point shaft also can mean a lower overall ball flight. Although straighter ball flight is essential, lower ball flight can reduce total distance.
  • Stiff Shaft or Tip Stiff: as important as the golf club head is in choosing a golf driver for slow swing speed, the shaft is just as critical; stay away from anything too stiff
  • Workability: for lower handicap players, workability is important, but the problem with it is that you will also usually notice a slightly heavier club head; just be careful of workability.
  • Adjustability Is Good and Bad: I love adjustability in a driver, but sometimes it can make a clubhead a little heavier; if you are a very slow swing speed player, look for the bonded hosel found in the Cleveland Lite driver.

How We Test

Britt Olizarowicz spends lots of time testing and comparing the latest golf club releases to the market. Having had many years of teaching hundreds of golfers, she knows which golf clubs will benefit each player.

At times, we test golf equipment using a launch monitor to compare specific data points and ensure spin rates and total distance are accurate.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Best Driver Shaft for Slow Swing Speed?

The senior flex or regular flex golf shafts are the best options for slow swing speed golfers. A senior golfer with a swing speed less than 80 mph may want to consider the senior flex golf shaft. Also, look for something that has less than fifty grams of weight. The lower weight shafts will help improve overall speed and distance.

How Do I Increase My Swing Speed On My Driver?

Increasing swing speed on the driver comes from improved swing mechanics, the right equipment for your golf game, and increased physical strength. You may want to check out my article on golf training aids that can assist with swing speeds.

What Loft Is The Best For A Slower Swinging Golfer?

The 10.5 to 11.5 degree loft is ideal for men with slower swing speeds. Women golfers with slower swing speeds can look for 12 degrees or more in their driver’s head. Higher loft won’t give you more speed, but it can help you get a straighter ball flight.

What is the Best Driver for Slow Swing Speed?

The Cleveland Launcher XL Lite Driver ranks at the top of our list as the best driver for a slow swing speed.

Final Thoughts on the Best Golf Drivers for Slow Swing Speeds

Well, that’s a wrap on the best golf drivers for slow swing speeds. As you can see there are a lot of great options available for game improvement.

The Cleveland Launcher XL Lite stands out as the overall best golf driver for slow swing speeds.

For the mid to high handicapper on a hunt for speed, forgiveness, and consistency, the best choice is the Cleveland Launcher XL which checks all the boxes.

One final tip of advice. Remember that slower swing speed golfers need a bit of extra forgiveness in addition to the distance capabilities of a driver. Make sure to find something that incorporates both. In 2023, there are plenty of options!

I encourage you to have your swing speed tested to make sure you are truly a slow swing speed player. This is easy to do at any golf performance center or with a personal golf launch monitor
