Ankur Mithal’s journey into golf began unexpectedly at 25. Shortly after completing his MBA, he found himself working for a major bank that urgently needed a fourth player for the upcoming Merchants’ Cup Golf Meet in Kolkata, India. Despite his athletic background, Ankur had never ventured into golf. Nonetheless, he volunteered, embarking on a whirlwind adventure that started with a crash course from senior colleagues the night before the tournament.
That impromptu round of golf ignited a passion that, although inconsistent initially due to his career demands and frequent relocations, never quite faded. In 2003, upon his move to Gurgaon, Ankur fully embraced his love for the sport, becoming a member of the prestigious DLF Golf and Country Club and transitioning into a regular golfer.
Now, at 58, Ankur finds himself in the prime of his golfing life as a senior player. His current role as a writer and consultant affords him the luxury of playing golf during the week. The youngest in his golf circle, which includes players over 75, he draws inspiration from their enthusiasm and commitment to the game. Ankur firmly believes in golf as a pathway to a vibrant, healthy lifestyle, especially for those over 50. He sees it as more than a personal pursuit; for him, it’s his ‘duty’ to introduce others over 50 to the joys of golf.
